Re: '88 Scorpio For Sale

Hello Brokencase, Thank you for the message and the kind words. This will be one of those cars that we will regret selling at some point down the road (pardon the pun). I have just enough energy left to rebuild / restore one more car before I'm no longer physically able. The sale of the Scorpio will...

'88 Scorpio For Sale

Hello All, It has been awhile, too many projects competing for my time. I never envisioned retirement would be this busy! This took a great deal of soul searching between my better half and myself - we have decided to sell the Scorpio. With a 7 month window of 'salt free' roads we are not using the ...

Re: HAVC System - Temperature Sensor Values

Hello Ed, My vacuum gauge testing was a 'quick test' to verify that the heater valve control valve solenoid was at least functioning. The plan is to run more in depth tests in the future. Would love to replace the HVAC control with a simple manual set up. I had a fully automatic system in my '81 Mer...

Re: HAVC System - Temperature Sensor Values

Hello Ed, Appreciate the feedback. Did a quick check on the heater control valve using a vacuum gauge. It receives a vacuum signal until the AC is engaged then the signal drops to zero. I suspect the HVAC must restore the vacuum signal at regular intervals to ensure the set temperature is met. Hello...

Re: HAVC System - Temperature Sensor Values

Hello Ed, Brokencase, Appreciate the feedback. Pity that this 'feature' is standard. :-) I always run the HVAC system in manual mode (ECON if AC is not needed), as I find auto has the fan on high more often than not. I find the fan noise on high, annoying to say the least. Pity there isn't a solutio...

HAVC System - Temperature Sensor Values

Hello All, Searched the threads but couldn't find any related to this issue (?). Don't know if this is indicative of the Scorpio HVAC system; if I set the temperature at 20C (68F), as the engine warms up the air temperature coming out of the ducts is quite warm. However, once the interior warms up t...

Re: WTB - Metric Speedometer

Hello Bob, Thanks for the tip. Had to ask my better half to do the search as I closed my FB account in 2007. It ended up being a dead end. Hello Brokencase, Trying to read the km/h markings is difficult as they are smaller and the colour contrast is lower than the white digits for the MPH. Also not ...

Re: WTB - Metric Speedometer

Hello Ed, Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I had three issues with the speedometer; odometer (note; gear set different from the imperial speedometers), stepper motor and the painted face markings. The latter is the more difficult issue, a new face is a custom job and the quote I have is ~$1...

WTB - Metric Speedometer

Hello All, Looking for either a speedometer or complete instrument. Unfortunately the cluster I recently acquired from 'my8950' has a defective odometer plus the painted face markings are peeling off (sun?). Pity. :-) So, if anyone has a one, please let me know the price including shipping, USPS is ...

Re: J Hose - behing the AC compressor

Hello Bob, I'm a little late to the party with my reply. I replaced all the hoses on my Scorpio in April of 2021 and posted the results on the forum (link below). It has a number of 'work-arounds' as well as some excellent forum feedback / ideas. BTW if you do order the hose from Motomobil in German...

Re: ABS Master Cylinder / Pump Assembly

Hello All, Long overdue follow-up, life and too many projects got in the way. In fact, we've only managed to put less than 1200 km (~750 mi), this year. First, the responses and views to this thread have been fantastic, a good indicator of a healthy forum, plus we need options to our dwindling spare...

Re: ABS Master Cylinder / Pump Assembly

Hello All, The January 2022 issue of Hemmings Motor News (the thick one with all the cars for sale), has an article on page 46 about converting a Buick Turbo Regal from the 'Powermaster' (aka Teves II electric/hydraulic), brake master cylinder over to a standard vacuum servo master cylinder. It is a...

Re: OEM pistons (+0.5 mm)

Hello Vovan, Rock Auto shows EngineTech pistons (only 6 left :-) in the size you are looking for. Price is surprisingly inexpensive. See link below. That's the good news, the challenge will be finding rings that fit. :-( https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/merkur,1988,scorpio,2.9l+v6,1204636,engine,...

Re: Ford Tempo Front Springs

Hello Brad, Appreciate the reply. I applaud the accuracy of your testing as the details below will highlight. Nice piece of 'backyard' engineering. :-) The part I find most interesting is although both front end weight values are similar and the Tempo spring shorter in overall length, the ride heigh...

Re: Ford Tempo Front Springs

Hello Brad, Once again, nice to see someone exploring other avenues. BTW, interesting paint job (wrap)? :-) As with my comment on the rear shock absorbers (dampers to our English colleagues), I'm curious about the spring rate for the Tempo front springs? According to the RockAuto site the same part ...
