Replacement speedometer cable?

For some reason I'm having a hard time finding a speedo cable. Is there a suitable substitute (like from the 1986 Capri)? Rock Auto lists several for the 1986 XR...I assume same as my 1988? But they widely range in lengths (66 in, 82 in and 95 in - pretty big range). Also, some of the cables are for...

Speedometer suddenly stopped working

I was driving my 88 XR on the freeway and I heard a soft click and my speedometer (and naturally the odometer) completely stopped working. Now I hear a soft chirping/clicking sound that is proportional to wheel revolution as I drive. What happened? Speedo cable disconnected? Or failed and needs repl...

Re: Swap in new R134 A/C compressor

Thanks. I actually have a spare condenser. I'll flush it, add adapter, install with new drier and condenser, and see what happens. What about the evaporator?

Swap in new R134 A/C compressor

Anyone ever swapped out the old compressor for a new one? The FS10 does not see to have the right bolt pattern. Any conversion hacks out there?

Talked with Jeff at MPM. He's sending me one on Monday. So cool. Thanks, Jeff!

Wheel key - anyone have a spare to send me? $$

So I'm missing the wheel key for my 1988 XR. I have a buddy going out of his way to help me with some brake and suspension stuff next weekend (April 10) so I need one fast.

Unless there's a way to get the wheels off without it?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Suspension upgrade help for a newbie

Thoughts on coilovers conversion? I've heard front works, rear not sure much.

If coilovers, what spring rate did you use? For high performance street driving?

Figure replace all the bushings at the same time?

Re: Exhaust Upgrade - Help for an XR Newbie

Thanks again for all the info and advice. So...I don't HAVE to use something like the ATP outlet though, right? Given the fit issues etc? The Stinger 3" exhaust stuff will just bolt on, right? How much better will it be with that outlet vs without? One other question: O2 sensor and wastegate. T...

Re: Exhaust Upgrade - Help for an XR Newbie

Thanks so much for all the advice.

Yes, it's a manual XR.

That's great to hear that the Stinger will bolt on to the stock E6. I'm confirming that this is true for the 3" stinger exhaust?

Good advice on soaking in penetrating oil for a bit...heck that's good advice for ANY old bolt on a car.

Exhaust Upgrade - Help for an XR Newbie

So I just acquired a 1988 XR, totally stock and in great shape (owned by a Ford master mechanic, who recently passed). As I'm planning out my ownership, I figure the only mod I want to do, to start, is upgrade to a 3 inch exhaust. (Intercooler later, maybe rear disc brakes.) I'm totally open to remo...
