Re: Anyone around Austin?

=( That's a shame, I haven't heard back on my email yet, but either way, I guess it is what it is. Now you've got me curious as to the history on this car, whatever it may be.

I wasn't aware that IV came with a T5! I should have known but that's news to me. Cool stuff.

Cheers!

Re: Anyone around Austin?

No, no, I don't see it as interrogation at all... this is good!, Allows me to learn more about this car. When I bought it, I was looking for something exactly like this. I paid a hefty sum, but it was all ready to go and I had the cash to buy it. Whether it was a true Rapido or not didn't really mat...

Re: Anyone around Austin?

Yeah, I'm with you. The previous owner stated that buyer opted for the bi-plane. That's something I would have done as well, that bi-plane was such a striking and bold design for that time. my '89 is jealous of my '86 for sure. I personally think that Rapido fumbled on that front. It could be a poin...

Re: Anyone around Austin?

God, I wish I could easily upload pics to forums, I put a set of 12 pics on the facebook group, but I don't think I've done it here yet. Let me see about getting an account for uploading pics to a site so I can link them. Car only has 46k and looks just about new. Has all the stage 2 goodies and som...

Re: Anyone around Austin?

I used to live in Lakeway, had a white 89 back in 2001, and then my '86 Rapido in Pflugerville in 2014. I've now moved to the Odessa/Midland area, help me GOD lol...

I currently still have the 86 Rapido and now have an 89 automatic as well. Rosso Red / Radiant Red.

Re: Light scraping/grinding noise, not speed proportional

All I can say is mine doesn't make any noises like that. It hates going 55, hunts for gears like crazy. Fortunately that's not the speed limit now... it would not have been tolerable back in the day. Mine shifts just fine, doesn't hunt, but it hates going 30mph. It's almost impossible. It's natural...

Re: Light scraping/grinding noise, not speed proportional

Could someone explain to me what the planetary gears in transmission are doing when car is coasting in neutral? Are the spinning, or is only the output and input shafts spinning? I'm trying to rule out the transmission. But, again, the noise comes on at 5mph and stays the same even at high speed. No...

Re: Light scraping/grinding noise, not speed proportional

So if anyone was following this or the FB post, and for the sake of wrapping up the issue for posterity, I jacked up the rear completely and put her in drive. The noise still exists but the more I listened to it I just can't tell if I'm being too sensitive about it or not. Havent driven a C3 in almo...

Light scraping/grinding noise, not speed proportional

Hello folks, I posted this once in the Facebook forum, but figured I should probably stop asking for mechanical advice there simply because one of the functions of a forum is to preserve the questions and answers. I initially thought I had solved the noise issue by 80%, but as it turns out I was sad...

Re: Exhaust leak - from turbo downpipe? Need help diagnosing

Thanks guys! Solid advice. I've rebuilt only 2 turbos, both on Volvos, a 760 and a 242. Both were a pita due to the heat in that area causing bolt issues. I'm sure it's the same or worse here. The car is in close to perfect condition, with only 44k miles. Seats still look and feel new. I'd hate to g...

Re: Exhaust leak - from turbo downpipe? Need help diagnosing

That's a great point. Since it's pre-O2 sensor leak, it could cause poor readings. I appreciate you "waking" me up to this fact. I knew it, but I just didn't even realize it until you said something. Shame on me, been working on cars for 20+ years and I go and disregard something as simple...

Re: Exhaust leak - from turbo downpipe? Need help diagnosing

Bought some aluminum tape. Will block off the flange and try again. If no dice, then I'll block off the back of the turbo. Hoping I can at least find out if there's a crack or if the flange just needs a new gasket or some tightening. Will report back. Thanks guys.

Re: Exhaust leak - from turbo downpipe? Need help diagnosing

Bought an endoscope, took a deeper look, and for the life of me, I cannot tell where this damn leak is coming from. There's pressurized hot air flying between the turbo downpipe (flange area where it mates to exhaust) and the back of the turbo. I can't tell if it's coming from the flange or the exha...

Re: Exhaust leak - from turbo downpipe? Need help diagnosing

Thank you guys! Could post-turbo exhaust leak possibly cause some idling or driving issues? I noticed that it idled a bit oddly today, but evened out after it warmed up. Could be that I need to drive it more. I drive it only twice a month usually. Car has 44k, and had lived a very sheltered life. An...
