Re: Runs / Doesn't run
What year is your car? The fuel pump relay is a good candidate as over time the contacts in the fuse block weaken and will make contact when cold but as current passes through it will heat up and move just slightly enough to cut off power to the fuel pump. After car sits and it cools off, contact i...

Re: Runs / Doesn't run
Ok, So looks like it boiled down to one of the connectors that was coming off the coil. It was corroded with some bare wiring and all that. Also had another connector that was in bad shape on one of the fenders, so got that fixed as well. She's up and running again and I'll continue to shake it down...

YMMV
I want to say that it's usually an 'instant off', although the last time we started it, it ran for a few seconds then sputtered and quit.

Re: Runs / Doesn't run
Agree that the TFI module is a likely culprit. But, it's been sitting for 20 years, and I would expect corrosion at any/all of the many grounding wires, as well as junk in the fuel lines. Worst case is dropping the gas tank and checking the pump. First, though, put a fuel gauge on the Shrader valve...

Re: Runs / Doesn't run
Trouble code reader is inexpensive and a great help: http://merkur.50megs.com/custom.html Hmmm...I would start thinking about the grounds by the battery and the ECU ground at the turbo - little orange wire. The ECU relay - next to the computer under the glove box. The "runs for 5 seconds and d...

Re: Runs / Doesn't run
Honestly, it concerns me that "no start" transitioned to brakes, an alternator, and many TFI modules. That is not good mechanic work. If it doesn't have spark, you need to determine why, find where the breakdown is. It could be in the sensor feeding the TFI, the TFI itself, the ECM, the c...

[/quote] I may be interested in those depending on what they look like.(style wise) Its my understanding the cracking was more a consequence of overheating instead of the Lima which cracks because lima. Runs / Doesn't run
Ok, Just throwing this out there to see what sticks.............. So, 'resurrected' the Xr4 and everything ran great until early this year; was tooling down the highway and had it cut out (die) for a split second, then come back to life. :? Next, later on, I could start it and let it idle for a few ...

Re: Apparently Im stupid.
I had an '89, black. Bought it used. Drove it for a few years then the wife ran a red light and t-boned a delivery truck square in the rear axle. I don't think it even scratched the truck, but bent the frame on the Scorpio. Fairly cool car, but that 2.9 was notorious for having cracked heads...…...I...

Re: Another header post
Poor quality materials, the SS header is the same as the EBay header and all the other $100 headers. Randy Heinlen makes a nice one, others make nice ones as well, the going rate is around $550 or so give or take... Thanks! Sorta figured it was from cheaper materials. Thanks for the Heinlen name-dr...

The 'Rapido' reference that Brewer made was not Russ Harness's company. The word 'rapido', in several languages, is an adverb having to do with 'speed/fast/quickly/rapidly'.

Re: Another header post
All things being equal, perhaps... hard to say for sure. But if you think about it, an exhaust system only moves a little, but there's a hell of a lot of leverage to be had from a metal pipe that long..! John, agreed. Even Boport says " We do however recommend the use of a flex joint and braci...

Re: Another header post
If you are going with a header, be sure to utilize a flex pipe portion in your downpipe to take most of the load off your header welds. Thanks for the info John, I wonder if that's where the cracking is typically coming from? In other words XS (or one like it) might be a 'decent' header but without...
