Re: Will the real Scorpio Cam specs please stand up?

Thanks Brokencase. Why are they (Scorpio 2.9 cams) so hard to find new? None on EBay.co.uk or de Steve I think your best bet is to find a cam grinder who can grind to spec OR search for an aftermarket 2.9 Ranger cam with the longest duration you can find. Perhaps Camcraft H39-0606? https://www.camc...

Re: a4ld won't shift into overdrive

Here is the aftermarket switch up on ebay.. Superior makes it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-Vacuum-Switch-Kit-700R4-200-4R-350C-Trans-6-22-Superior-K058-99412/192359828359 Just an FYI - You can tell if this vacuum switch is not adjusted properly (or if there is a leak in the line going to it)...

Re: a4ld won't shift into overdrive

Bob - that vacuum switch releases torque converter lockup. It is not associated with overdrive. It should trip at 15 inches of vacuum. As far as I am aware the torque converter can lockup in 3rd or OD. But here is the description from the EVTM... The torque converter will lock up hydraulically when ...

Re: Will the real Scorpio Cam specs please stand up?

I believe they are. However, the important point here is to indicate that the the Scorpio cam is different than that in the Ranger.

Re: Power steering issue

The high pressure line is the one that has the metal connection to the power steering pump. It then transitions into rubber as it goes down to the rack (where it transitions back to metal). You're not going to be able to buy one of these hose assemblies as a new replacement. Unless someone has an NO...

Re: Power steering issue

How about this hypothetical... The rebuilt pump and rack were actually fine. But what if there is a problem with the 30 year old high pressure hose? For example the hose internally collapsed or, even worse, chunks of hose are breaking away and getting forced into the rack. That would mean that the p...

Thanks for the excellent photos Paul.

Sadly I am trying my best to isolate my father from Covid-19 and so I opted not to attend. But I really wanted to go..
Next year I hope.

Re: Like clockwork...ECT failure..

I think it is more about number of heat cycles than it is mileage or age.
Its been running OK with the new sensor, but I think i'm going to pull codes again tomorrow just to be sure..

Re: Re-upholstering the center console lid...

I did another test. I made a mix of 50/50 acetone and the AT-205 reseal. I then brushed this onto the leather I pulled off the console. I did a 2 inch square area and let it sit on there for about 10-15 minutes and then wiped it off. The leather definitely feels softer. But again I think I want to l...

Re: Help with 88 Scorpio wiring diagram

One other failure mode for the tach is that there is a small calibration potentiometer on the circuit board for the tach. It is a low cost, low quality item that is not sealed. So it oxidizes. Sometimes it can be resolved by spraying contact cleaner and working it back and forth a bit (note where it...

Re: Help with 88 Scorpio wiring diagram

There is just a green wire from the coil that goes to the tachometer. There is no schematic provided for the tach circuit itself.
Typical failures in the tach reported in the past have been bad solder joints or bad capacitors.

Re: Re-upholstering the center console lid...

Leatherique's two-step process supposedly works to bring some suppleness back. A few Merkats have used it...Bart Dyshuk and possibly Ron Hofmann Sr. inter alia...and were satisfied with the results. Expensive though. YMMV If you read Leatherique's pdf http://www.leatherique.com/2011-leatherique-boo...

Re: Re-upholstering the center console lid...

I thought it might be a good idea to perform some experiments on the leather that I removed from my center console armrest. What sort of unconventional treatments could I apply to this hard, cracked, and worn piece of leather? The first experiment was rubbing in acetone. Results are quite unexpected...
