Re: Ford Performance email mag: "RYAN LABOMBARD’S ECO-BOOSTED ’87 MERKUR RESTOMOD’S THE BOMB"

Control pack is no longer available. At least not though Ford like the crate engine itself. I like the idea of a lighter engine verses a heavier one. Just go with the 2.3 Ecoboost. There are folks on ebay selling motor/tranny combos with harness and ancillaries that you can start up on the shipping...

Re: Accuracy of fuel range indication

That jives with the owner's manual on page 41... "About 1.5 gallons (6 liters) of fuel remain when 0 miles/km range is displayed. The Fuel Computer will automatically recalculate a new range value when more than 2 gallons are added to the tank with the ignition turned off." I never let mine get that...

Re: Accuracy of fuel range indication

Pin 34 of the EECIV, pages 36 and 90 of the Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting manual. What about changes in air pressure, humidity and of course temperature? It does not matter, to calculate MPG you just need to measure the fuel rate and the distance traveled. I hate to say it Ed, but I trust th...

Re: Accuracy of fuel range indication

I assume the fuel computer reads TPS positions against speed sensor input. No, it just needs the instantaneous fuel consumption, and that is proportional to the pulse width sent to the injectors. Airflow is not consistent and can change with temperature. In addition, the EECIV runs the car rich whe...

Re: Accuracy of fuel range indication

I've never ran it all the way out. But I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was about a 20-25 mile reserve. The Scorpio fuel computer is pretty accurate. The tank level has some influence, mainly for resetting the range but the majority of the calculation is based off of the fuel injection pul...

Re: Merkur Scorpio vs. Sierra/Capri/Granada 2.9 12v intakes

The Scorpio has a longer duration camshaft as well. Search through the forum as I posted the specs for each a while back. But I think it really comes down to the Ranger being setup for more torque. The hp difference is minor between the two. The Euro 2.9l had dual vane sensors and slightly higher co...

Re: Horn stopped working

Tell you what Brad, I went through every relay and fuse contact point and cleaned with sandpaper or a jeweler's file. That means also cleaning every contact blade on the relays and fuses also. I then sprayed them with contact cleaner. It's 32 years old now...and the fuse/relay box is notoriously non...

Re: New Scorpio. Thinking of a turbo

I believe the OHV is too tall to fit under the hood of the Scorpio. I had a 2003 sport trac. The motor is not bad but the goofy timing chain arrangement is a mess. The timing chains started to get rattley at around 115k miles (16 years of ownership). So I traded it in for a 2019 Ranger. Don't get me...

Re: New Scorpio. Thinking of a turbo

What I’m doing is cheaper than trying to buy a whole wrecked car that would still need a control pack or whatever If I went that route of a wrecked car I’d also do the 4.0 v6 just for the lineage. I already have a Duratec I’m putting in the XR. The 4.0L is a non starter. The SOHC won't fit and the ...

Re: New Scorpio. Thinking of a turbo

Just buy a wrecked 2015-2019 2.3L ecoboost mustang from copart.com.

Swap in the engine, trans, ecm, dash cluster, etc...

You'll have a much more refined product in the end.

Re: Upgraded fuel injectors

No, I'm not talking about converting to sequential or MAF. The article that I posted indicated that the original Scorpio setup bank fires three injectors at a time and that (on average) the injectors fire when the intake valves are CLOSED. What I'm saying is to try the experiment where you swap the ...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

Simplification would be as follows... Currently you have a heater valve with 4 ports. Two of the ports go to the heater core. The other two are "incoming" water and "outgoing" water. With the new valve you have two ports. The "incoming" water goes to one port of the valve. The other port of the valv...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

There are other 4 port heater control valves out there that would probably work on the Scorpio. For example, this unit for a 97 Aerostar... $8 from rockauto https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3934005&cc=1105209&jsn=626 You need to be careful. Some are "normally open" or "normally closed" so...

Re: Heater Control Valve (HCV) Elimination

OK - I think I get it (although I still would like to look at the manual or follow the hoses in the car) I think what you are saying is that the stock valve diverts both ends of the heater core. So in one state, the water circulates through the core. In the other state the water loops through the va...
