Re: Scorpio engine oil brand

Ed, If I choose to run synthetic I would not buy the cheap stuff. The rational of "Any synthetic will out perform conventional motor oil.." does not hold water. There is an additive package to consider, and you get what you pay for. There is a video up on youtube where a guy compared Super...

Re: EATC Vacuum lines at the engine compartment

I think you need the following diagram. The EACT is not mentioned so I suspect you are referring to the outside/recirc servo. Keep in mind if you have a vacuum line not connected to anything then that is a potential vacuum leak, you may be thinking the car is running ok, but resolve that leak and yo...

Re: Scorpio engine oil brand

If I were commuting regularly with my Scorpio (which I did for a few years 2016-2019)), then I would run synthetic 10w30 (which I also did) But for the past few years the car has been relegated to backup vehicle and twice a week usage. Makes no economic sense to run synthetic. In fact I anticipate s...

Re: EATC Vacuum lines at the engine compartment

I don't know of any vacuum lines that go behind the battery. so I am sorry I am not pulling my battery. Anyway, hope this helps. The vacuum line with the white stripe goes to from the EGR solenoid over to the EGR valve. BTW, if you have open vacuum connections then the car must be running horrible.

Re: EATC Vacuum lines at the engine compartment

Would a picture of my engine compartment help? Not sure I can get to it right away, maybe later this afternoon.

Re: Scorpio engine oil brand

20w50 is fine down to around 14F. I rarely drive my Scorpio in the Winter when it is that cold. I drive my truck instead. My mechanic pointed out to me that it is not really worthwhile to run synthetic. I don't put enough miles on the car in a year to justify the extended oil change interval that sy...

Re: Headlight washers

Interesting. I had to look through some early UK brochure scans to confirm the earlier inside chrome handles.
As far as I know all US Merkur Scorpios came with black plastic handles.

Anyway here you can see them more clearly. I sure wouldn't mind having a set of the chrome handles.

Re: Scorpio engine oil brand

There is nothing wrong in running 20w50. In fact, I would recommend it if you have higher mileage and you drive mostly in the summer. I often run 15w40 or 20w50. I find that the Cologne V6 runs smoother with the higher viscosity oil. The push for running thinner oil like 5W30 is in the interest of s...

Possible float switch substitute

I saw this and thought it might be a good substitute for Scorpio overflow and washer tank float sensors. One would only have to work out the rubber seal portion, possibly 3d print something in polyurethane. Or it may be making a simple spacer. https://www.allelectronics.com/item/flw-1/float-switch-w...

Re: Headlight washers

Just post here. But I think you might need to be a paying member of the Merkur club in order to be able to post images to the forum. When you post, scroll down below the test edit window and there is an attachment tab where you can attach jpg image files. It is wise to to resize the photos to a reas...

Re: The broken aftermarket CV-axle issue

Just wanted to post an update. Running both Trackmotive axles now with the load spreading washers installed with no problems. I've been slowly increasing the "stomp on it" power away from a dead stop and they seem to be holding up now to full bore. I have to add that the new "home mad...

Re: Radio issues with anything newer

I installed a modern Kenwood radio in my Scorpio and I used the "Metra 70-1822 Receiver Wiring Harness kit" (available from Crutchfield). I find that the contacts to the speaker connectors in this kit are intermittent. It's definitely an oxidation issue. It will occasionally drop out on on...

Re: ABS Master Cylinder / Pump Assembly

FWIW, I purchased a used Crown Vic ABS/traction control unit with the associated connector. I put a watch on one on ebay and the seller gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. This will sit on the shelf until that day comes when my Teeve system fails. I will probably adapt a Crown Vic master cylinder to...
