Re: Replacement seats

Thought I'd throw a link in here for the thread on harvesting the seat feet...

Harvesting Seat Track Feet for Alternate Seats

Installing after-market or junkyard donor seats from another vehicle can be a challenge in the XR or Scorpio since the tracks don't mount in a simple, flat manner. And so the easiest way to address this is using the feet from factory original seats, harvesting the seat tracks from seats otherwise on...

Those would fit nicely into an envelope...
We'll see if we have any left after the show. It would be nice if I could delegate that function to the "MCA Shipping Dept", but that's me too.

I spy 1987 Scorpio seats in a XR.

Re: 11" Brake Rotor

I'm back to the question of "Is the stock Scorpio braking really so bad?" Re-drilling rotors? It's just not worth the trouble...effort better spent elsewhere.. Your talking about a rotor size change 9.95 to 10.7? How much does that get you? An extra 3/8" around the perimeter? It's not a question of...

Re: 11" Brake Rotor

Nice work, Brad. So, after drilling to 14mm, did you see/feel there was enough material left around the bosses for "heavy duty," or are you crossing your fingers? I don't have any concerns. When I looked at how little was coming off the bit as I drilled, it really wasn't that much material. Admitte...

Re: 11" Brake Rotor

I forgot to mention it in this thread, but I tried the 2005-2007 Focus caliper bracket with the 2012+ Focus caliper. It would work, but the offset is different and would require more spacer (I didn't measure it exactly). I decided to keep it simple, bore the mounting holes out to 14mm, and just use ...

Re: No adapter Big Brakes

I was incorrect about the XR and Scorpio spindles having identical offsets. There is a ~3mm difference between the two, and so a XR spindle would need about .120" (~1/8") of additional spacing to what I've indicated above when using the Scorpio spindle. Thanks to Tim Spencer for this insight.

Re: 11" Brake Rotor

Mocked up... Scorpio spindle assembly with caliper mounting holes bored out to 14mm (35/64" drill) 2012+ Focus Calipers 2012+ Focus Rotors (Will need to be re-drilled) Qty 2 .065" thick spacers (AKA washers) It just missed working without the spacers, but no big deal there at all just to get the rot...

Re: No adapter Big Brakes

Some more details with pics. Parts: Scorpio front hub assembly (should have identical offset as XR) 2005 Focus Rotor 2012 Focus Caliper Qty 4 1/2" galvanized washers from Home Depot. That's just a miniscule bit too much, so if making a spacer, call it .160" instead of the .180" as shown by stacking ...

Re: Friday Weekly Announcement Leading up to Carlisle 2020

It's Friday and that means it's time for your weekly Merkurs at Carlisle 2020 message. Need another reason to attend? Okay. Every MCA member attending the show will get a limited edition Merkur emblem face shield! I've had one of these for a couple days now and it is now my "go to" face mask. When n...

Re: Scorpio Lumbar Replacement?

Nice job documenting this. I saved the heating elements from some Scorpio seats I junked. I think I'll clip off the quick-connectors and toss them. It wouldn't make sense to use 30+ year-old stuff when new technology is available for not that much $.

100 ft ladder would be great for cutting tree branches. But where on earth would you park the thing when not in use...
Don't get me thinking how to justify the purchase of one! Indeed the challenge would be storing the vehicle.

Re: No adapter Big Brakes

If your OCD kicks in, a 35/64" drill bit will drill a (just barely) large enough hole for a 14mm bolt, removing as little material as possible from the XR or Scorpio spindle caliper mounting ears.
