Re: New Seat Belts?
I've thought about this issue as well. We're seeing lots of things decay on our cars, not from use, but just from simple aging. It would be nice if a swap candidate could be found from a modern vehicle, even if a little effort was required to engineer it into place. Sounds like a good junkyard-searc...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
What transmission are you contemplating anyway? From one of of your forum links... " did my 4.0 Swap on an '87 from a'93 Explorer donor and I would not recommend doing it that way for anyone else... It took a solid three weeks (80hour weeks) to combine the two harnesses to make everything work...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
One thing I hadn't thought about was whether there would be any issues using the Scorpio flywheel/clutch behind the 4L. I got concerned when I started reading some Ranger forums where it was indicated you HAD to upgrade to the 4L flywheel/clutch when doing the swap there. In short, you CAN use the R...

Re: Low voltage idiot light on after Instrument Cluster R&R / MerkMeter Install
I think I promised I'd post this - it's the 12V+ circuit for the radio that I tapped for the A/F gauge that I ran for a short time before going back to the MerkMeter. As you can see, it's a convenient spot since there's a Gnd nearby, so it's a tidy install; not as tidy as the MerkMeter install howev...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
You have a parts Scorpio, what year? How's its engine? Pull it, if necessary install newer heads, store it until needed. It's an '89 but the heads have the "87TM" casting so I probably wouldn't want to use them. The car sat for 20 years, so who knows what's inside. For $150 I could have a...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
Sounds like a lot of work for just a slight increase in hp. That new explorer is suppose to be 400hp. I wonder if that will get swapped into something in the next few years. In the proper perspective, the idea is actually to minimize the amount of work. The base assumption is that a top-end service...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
Anyhow, given above I think what you would want to look for is the the earlier design, and I think 95-96 Aerostar is the engine to get as a first choice, and as a second choice anything from 90-94. So I agree that the '95 or '96 Aerostar would be the best donor as it has the 12-hole block and the o...

Rare and somewhat useful book... http://www.mediafire.com/?ujyey93f1tpyf Awesome, thanks for sharing! I won't be mad if you share the pdf you mentioned from the "The Engine Rebuilder". :cheers I just briefly spoke with Phil Marshall. I didn't catch him at a good time so we'll speak again ...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
I think your going to have to go with the 4.0L ECM of the donor. The 2.9L distributor will not clear the 4.0L intake manifold. Since the 4L runs EDIS (rather than DIS) for ignition, from a practical standpoint, yes, you need to run a 4L PCM with the 4L engine & electronics. Had it run DIS, you ...

Re: Koni Cut-A-Strut
This is not a new thing. As an example, Koni only sold an insert for the Alfa 164. I first installed a set over 20 years ago. Ironically, I just removed the second set today, as they've failed again! Mind you, the failure has nothing to do with the insert approach as it's a totally valid approach, j...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio
Thanks for the data collection. If you want we could host that 4.0 rebuild pdf on the club web-site. Feel free to drop me a msg off-line. The interesting thing about the '95 / '96 Aerostar is that '95 is EEC-IV and '96 is EEC-V so you'd have a choice there with pretty much the same engine if wanting...

Re: IMON Archive Access
Hopefully one of these days we'll get the key-word search engine back on-line for the old IMON archives. The data is still around and backed up in several places, so don't worry about that. Our challenge is that the search engine was developed by someone who is no longer involved in the community, s...
