Re: After a 20 year hiatus...I shall return to Merkur Carlisle.

I was thinking in the morning so I could go see the flea market.. I booked Friday and Saturday at the hotel. Good call - Friday is the best day to do the flea market. It's the reason I leave Thursday so that I'm there first thing Friday morning. But I think you're closer, so with a little early-ris...

No. My parts car is a factory original T-9 and no air pump.

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio

BTW, do the 2.9 Valve covers fit the 4.0? I will check. I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are different. So this is the official start of the 4.0L swap? I'll start a new thread in the project section. But don't count on anything right away. I mostly jumped on this because it was a great ...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio

Did some digging and here's what I must have, including the 98TM heads. I cut and pasted this from a couple 20 year-old threads.... September 20, 2001 Hello, I run a set of 4.0 roller tip rockers. They are 1.6 ratio, stock ratio is a 1.46, and they are made of Billet aluminum. They also come with a ...

Re: EEC auto, manual differences "?"

The difference is mostly with the '89 5-speed cars which, as you have noted, have an O2 sensor in each exhaust manifold. The A4LD cars all have one O2 sensor centrally located downstream after the "Y". The PCM's for the Automatic cars should all be swap-able year-to-year as the pin-out is ...

Re: Day dreaming about a 4.0L in a Scorpio

And look what I found when I took one of the covers off tonight... Cologne4Scranton-1.JPG Perhaps here's the bad news. It's got 98TM6090AD heads, but apparently he ran this engine on a stock '94 Ranger tune. These heads should have required less ignition advance. Cologne4Scranton-2.JPG I'll have to ...

Direct-Pull T-5 Bell Housings

I thought I had shared this info in here, but apparently I only posted it on Turboford (about 15 years ago!) https://turboford.org/thread-d5-vs-d9-direct-pull-bell-comparison?highlight=bell Figured I'd go ahead and share it here for reference... 08-28-2005, 12:42 PM D5 Vs. Re: High Idle - IAC Valve

Awesome post D' - thanks! With all my futzing around with instruments clusters I had also noticed a pretty big voltage drop into the cabin. I've now got one of those cheapie voltage meters in the cigarette lighter, and it's always reading at least several tenths less than battery voltage, even with ...

Southern California Merkur Owners - Parts Availability

Some of you are aware of a well-known and very well-liked SoCal Merkur owner who passed away a couple years ago. His wife is looking to reasonably sell off his collection of XR and Scorpio parts over the next two months. Her plan is to donate all the proceeds to the club. If you have an interest, pl...

Re: Scorpio front seat frames

Have you tried tapping the motor with a hammer? My Alfa has a similar issue and that's the factory-endorsed field repair.

I could harvest a seat track with motors from my parts car if needed.

But I'm also going to drop you a PM with another possible, more local solution.

Re: No Adapter VW Rear Calipers & Focus Rotors on a Scorpio

Hydraulics solved. I did this a little different than I did on the XR since the hard-line along the STA is a little different. In this case (on the Scorpio), I've left that hard-line unmodified (MPM sells SS replacements if needed). 1998-99 VW Passat rear flex line together with fabricated ~2.5"...

Re: No Adapter VW Rear Calipers & Focus Rotors on a Scorpio

Good to know for that day when Rockauto no longer sells Scorpio rear rotors for $10 each... That was not the primary driver. The primary driver was the seizure-prone rear caliper and it's lack of availability. Details on that here... http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=38583&...

Re: No Adapter VW Rear Calipers & Focus Rotors on a Scorpio

That's pretty cool you can do it with easy to find parts, and nothing special required or anything. One of my goals when searching for alternate parts for these cars is to use something that can be found at the Podunk, South Dakota AutoZone on a Sunday night. It'll be neat if I can find a flex line...

Re: No Adapter VW Rear Calipers & Focus Rotors on a Scorpio

FYI... if by chance you want a 11" rear rotor, the 2012+ Focus ST uses one of those and so would probably work well with the slightly taller Passat caliper bracket (thus you could get caliper and bracket from same donor). The offset on that bracket is a little different so a spacer of some unkn...
