Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
I went through a very long tank cleaning process before I ever got it running. I don't think you understand how thorough I am. I performed an electrolosysis treatment on the fuel tank for like a week straight. There was just some areas I couldn't get all the specs of rust out while it was dry.

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
I ordered a new thermostat (195*), as well as a full set of kyb shocks/front struts, an air filter, and rear hatch lift struts. I ordered everything from rock auto as I've had good luck so far. Hopefully it all works out. Replaced the fuel filter and did the first oil change (400ish miles since the ...

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
Thanks for the reply I have actually ordered a coupler that should work. I also noticed it runs completely different/ much better when my coolant temp is closer to 200* I have been paranoid about the gauge sender working properly and installed a 180* tstat during the last head swap. I have come to r...

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
Sounds good I did solve the blinker by resetting the hazard switch. So can check that off the list. *I received the email for the headlights but I'm also looking to replace the center running lights along with them looking for a full set of similar quality of possible. My passenger side headlight is...

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
I tested the pusher fan by swapping relays around, as well as powering directly with 12volts. It didn't twitch. My question at this point is can I replace with a ebay china unit and wire into the factory wiring and hope for the best. Or is there an economical proper replacement? *I also bench tested...

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
Great Info from everyone. I will fiddle with the hazard light switch today because a buddy of mine was messing with it about the time I noticed the turn signals inop. Makes sense... -Replaced the autolite platinum's yesterday with copper 764's and wow did it make a difference. I drove the car about ...

Re: 15 year storage resurrection XR
I have some nice clear "restored" headlights on hand, I can send pictures to an email or text them to you if thats better. The TB hose is a 45° bend, 2 3/8" diameter. Are both fans still on the car? The AC switch will kick one of them on as you know, the other one is controlled by th...

15 year storage resurrection XR
Wanted to update current status of the xr I've resurrected after being willed the car. I have a previous post in the newbie section from a few months ago. http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=31014 I managed to find a bare cylinder head locally after having several shipped to m...

Re: Mustang Gas Tank Install (PICTURE HEAVY)
I'm no help on the mustang tank swap but I was able to remove the rust in my xr fuel tank that was just as bad as the one pictured through the process of electrolysis. It work real well and I'm currently running the car with it. The walbro pump could be retrofitted to in the stock sending unit with ...

Re: Newbie XR resto from Eastern SD
Thanks again for all the input, I'm going to try and drive the car a bit before I decide on a different cyl head. I do have the car up for sale on a few facebook sites and have had a lot of interest. I will probably make a sale ad in the classifieds here as well. -I have more parts on order, the dri...

Re: Newbie XR resto from Eastern SD
Could I use a 2.3 ranger head? I thought this 2.3t engine was pretty common between the t birds, mustangs and such? Are the n/a 2.3 heads swap able easily? I can get a ranger head for free.

Re: Newbie XR resto from Eastern SD
PC Valve is Motorcraft EV127A, probably still available from Ford dealers. Install a new one: crankcase pressure should be gone. "Anyone" aka Jeff at Merkur Midwest in Chicago likely can fix you up with a head (the second R&R's a charm...). The heads seldom crack except if severely ov...

Re: Crankcase pressure issue
*Update* -Went to the ford dealership today, didn't have a pcv valve on hand. And the tps is shot; said they're discontinued through dealer. I ended up a decent metal pcv unit that hold pressure pretty well. I used it for test drive today. Yesterday I reset cam and distributer timing that was signif...

Re: Newbie XR resto from Eastern SD

I found a metal pcv unit that holds pressure ill try it for the test drive. I reset the junk tps to as close to 1v as i could,...
