Re: Wheel locks

Caps on the wheels ! two of them. Couple of nights spraying wd-40 and trying and trying ! Perhaps it may be the wrong key. I do have one cap off the wheel that works wonders with the key on. They're all the same key. Meaning I could steal yours with my key, and I don't even know where you are... :)...

I've got a good set of these wheels, with keys and locks.
If anyone is looking, let me know.
They've also got good tires on them...

Yes sir! I also have a couple of wheel sets, a 15" mesh style set with caps and locks and a Escort Cosworth 16" with caps (imported from the UK).
Also a rare set of manual window brackets/tracks/rails, ideal for weight reduction. I'm sure there are some more parts in the attic!

Re: Event Status as it relates to COVID-19

I called to check it out last weekend since I didn't get an email or phone call.
The guy who answered looked me up and said yes, I was moved.
I guess we're good.

Re: Manual trans into auto xr

I need to be better about posting pics. I thought Ida been on lockdown these last few weeks, but because most of our clients are DOD contractors of some sort or another we got to be essential. I took today off of work to make a 4 day weekend so I can work on the car some, and then figure out the pr...

Yes, got a white 87 available.
It's a roller, but I have engines as well, all depends on what you're after.

Re: Awesome. A new noise!

I'm thinking out loud here because I've never setup a R&P in the Merkur diff. But, to remove the pinion you simply remove the pinion nut. You should be able to set preload of the pinion bearing without even having the diff in the case. When I did this before it was on the 8.8 solid axle in my Mustan...

You can use lots of stuff on your XR. Pull the steering rack, all 4 door handles, brake MC/booster to name a few.
Steering rack yes, but I think ends are different so it needs to be modified...
Curious what else besides that and booster.
Sway bar maybe, but I've seen conflicting information.

Re: Awesome. A new noise!

Makes sense. The pinion wasn't changed, but seems like a worthwhile thing to look at! No, like I said the pinion wasn't touched. Ahh, I saw wasn't changed, meaning I thought you're keeping the original pinion gear, and ring gear as well. But if taken apart to that extent, I would change the pinion ...

Did you remove the pinion and replace bearings & race?

Re: Awesome. A new noise!

Ah, gotcha. That feels less precise than using a dial gauge, but my experience is quite limited. You use gear marking compound to get a pattern of tooth engagement. Yes you set with a dial indicator, but usually also run a pattern to check. By doing so, you can confirm pinion depth, left/right shim...

Re: 2 lean cylinders

Ok so the virus has got me down so I looked around and saw my sad '87 merkur sitting aside my house for 5 years and I thought I'd pick us both up by getting her back on the road. The car is getting a full refresher. With engine out and on the stand i took all the manifolds off and noticed that inta...
