Re: New to Merkurs - Where is this oil coming from?
Sounds like you have really high blow-by if you're: having this massive oil leak blowing the oil separator out of the valve cover blowing out the oil dipstick You should probably do a compression/leak down test and see what's going on with the engine. Meanwhile, you could also just go to the local p...

Re: Rit dye for carpet
As the OP mentioned, I'm also curious about using dye for grey...
Usually I think people dye darker, i.e. black, but what about doing grey?

Re: New to Merkurs - Where is this oil coming from?
Yes, as mentioned, check the oil pressure sender, or even the line may be cracked and leaking. The PCV valve may have been blown out of the tubing, so the one end of the line is hanging open out there spewing. Make sure also, EV127A is what you get, critical. Oh, I also had an issue where my dipstic...

Re: No cluster lights...
Fuses may look good, and check good by a meter, but the female terminals they slide into get all blown out and sometimes don't have a good kung fu grip on the fuse. Check the tension of the terminals. But yeah, if its an aftermarket head unit, may just have a ground from the stereo through the power...

Re: No cluster lights...
I would also suggest to check the fuse, sounds like you have a lot out on one branch.
While the fuse may be good, the terminals that hold it may be blown out or funky, so check all the fuses under hood for cleanliness and blownoutness...

Re: No cluster lights...
Check the connector on the harness side and make sure that it's not roached. Also make sure that the cluster you're plugging in has clean contacts. I'd say when its out, also check the bulbs as mentioned above. The bulbs mount in some weird plastic things that connect to the board, there are a few o...

Re: Best Front Brake Setup for 14-inch Wheels?
www.merkurdepot.com big front brake kit will clear (most) 15" wheels, but not 14". Stock XR4Ti front brakes might be your best bet and indeed and upgrade for such a small car. And the fact that many people are removing the stock XR brakes and putting them in the bin will make them cheap.

Re: Show me your Belt Routing with a Passenger Side Alternator
I converted to a single serpentine with tensioner/ps bracket and pullies from a fox mustang. The mustang tensioner is garbage; you use the bolt holding the tensioner as your release lever point, push too hard trying to relieve tension and it'll strip the threads. Had to use washers to space the alt...

Did you do a compression check?
Take the valve cover off and inspect the head.
If it's burning that much oil, you should be seeing something out the tailpipe. If its leaking, you'll see that on the ground.

What are you guys using for Panel bonding adhesives?
If you can post a name/manufacturer and part number that would be great.

Re: Boost Gauge max reading not changing?
Sorry for getting back so late on this. Answers: yes, boosts up to 10 and holds strong. New vacuum lines are Gates 7/32 rubber. I connected my air compressor to the hose that comes off the intake, and pressurized to 25psi. Found a couple of tiny leaks where hoses connect to vacuum tree, and as sugg...

Re: Tool needed to adjust headlight beams...
Hi all, The end of the adjustment screw head looks like either a star or Torx shape head. That is why I wonder about an E 5 or E 6 socket; those are female Torx sockets for male Torx head screws. Cheers ah, ok, I do recall that now. Inverse torx, that could be it. I am not sure of the size though.
