Re: California SMOG Test Will Include ECU Tune Checks
I understand what you're saying, but I'm not claiming rolling rules, or that they're constricting the emissions standards as cars age. My XR only failed the first time due to faulty vac lines, but passed the second time under the same standards its always had since the 5.0L swap. Same for the Scorpi...

Re: 3d models for components of XR4ti and Scorpio
Probably out of the dimension limit(s), but what about a snap-together frame for the missing Scorpio leaf catcher? You can use your own plastic-coated gutter screen, or some ABS honeycomb, etc, but it would be good to have something mimicking this rare item that looks more attractive than just gutte...

Re: California SMOG Test Will Include ECU Tune Checks
Sameguy, I defer to your knowledge of CARB guys you know, and I'm sure there must be quite a few real car guys there, but they're not the ones making decisions. Both Mary Nichols and Dick Corey, whose essential experiences are in "climate change theory" and "environmental toxicology,&...

Re: Door Hinge Pin?
I still need spare hinges, or if it's too much work to grind them off, then 2 or 3 circlip'd pins.

Re: California SMOG Test Will Include ECU Tune Checks
Maybe I should preface this with, "Don't get me started..." The important point in that article might just be "... no matter how negligible that increase may be." A lot of aftermarket tunes, especially when done on a dyno, produce better emissions and performance through more eff...

Re: Door Hinge Pin?
So, here's my simple hinge R&R method, kinda' parallel Sameguy's suggestion for inserting a steel sleeve with the door remaining on the car. This would work whether you're stuck with the old style knurled pin, or the newer circlip'd pins: In the shop manual, it shows a bushing inside the flapper...

Re: AC Condenser Cooling Fan
Same thing with my F-150, white on black. I prefer driving the Scorpio around for small errands, but I know if it's gonna' be hot in the car, the truck will cool far faster. Seems like just about any car I get into these days has some pretty good air flow, esp. in comparison to the Scorpio. Lot of n...

Re: AC Condenser Cooling Fan
You're probably correct. Now that I think about it, it might be a Rapido kit, as it has a tall Rapido tank next to the rad

Re: AC Condenser Cooling Fan
It was converted to R134 before I got it, has the FMCo sticker. I suppose a thorough checkup on everything related to the cooling stage would help.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Exterior handles. Figure after 30+ years in the sun, they're eventually going to weaken and break. I can try to get a pic of those seals. Basically, if you open the driver's door and look at the inside of the roof/windshield line as it comes down towards the hood, its that long seal running the leng...

Re: Suspension Knock
Yeah, the strut sleeves are a good idea. But, I tend to believe that no matter how much you tighten down that clamp bolt, the weight of the car during transfer then rebound can be enough to allow the strut body to slide a bit. The noise is to the side that the body rolls towards (i.e., the left side...

Re: AC Condenser Cooling Fan
In your experience, is it more likely that a noisy compressor w/ weak cooling output needs replacement, or just needs re-oiling? I like the idea of the oil-injector, but that could be a chunk of change that should have been put towards a new/rebuilt compressor.

Re: Wanted: 2 door hinges
Thanks for the offer, but a whole door would be a waste. Can use two spare handles, though. Also, there's a seal on the A-pillar to close off the front of the door window sheet metal from wind/rain. If yours are in good shape, I can use them, or at least the driver's side.

Re: AC Condenser Cooling Fan
Thanks Ed. Did you try the pressure oil canister type (looks like a can of refrigerant refill) before deciding on that filler?
