Hello

Post by bonehead »

I’ve been a lurker here for a while. I figured I’d get membership before going to Carlisle so now I have an account. I bought my XR a few years ago. I haven’t driven it a whole lot until this year and I’m not that great at fixing stuff, but I’ve replaced some things and keep it on the road. (Though I can think of a list of stuff that still needs replacing) Unsure if my car will actually make the 11 hour round trip, but I think the odds are good enough to give it a shot. I have a couple questions but I’ll post to the XR4Ti section instead.

Heh, no wife. It's something my old music teacher said frequently, I thought it might work because of my poor auto skills. 8)

Good luck! Hope you replaced timing belt, tires, brakes, fluids and don't have any major leaks. If you have an issue I'm sure another club member would be willing to help.

Thanks! All the belts are recent, good tires, good oil. There are a few areas where it’s seeping, most concerning is the oil line from under the turbo, but I’m replacing that gasket after work. (Should I drain all the oil from the pan first or will I be fine?) I plan on replacing the coolant since it’s old but my dad said to test it first. Brake pads usually chatter but work fine. I only figured out that this was my noise a couple days ago but couldn’t find replacements from local parts stores. I found out yesterday that I could order pads from EBC but they won’t get here until after I plan on leaving. The car is kinda ugly and I could’ve taken better care of it beforehand but if I make it, it will be +1 for the Merkur count.

Did you make it?
Maybe we need to put our screen names on the cars at Carlisle, so we can reference who we are talking to..
