Using Paint Products

Post by andyofcolumbusmerkur »

Used this stuff. The color does go from pink to red. Problem is it doesn't stay red all that long. Then I saw a video on youtube called Merkur Convoy to Carlisle and saw my car in the video. It was the least red out of all of them. You can see how some previous owners buffed all the way through the red base coat along the top of the passenger fender/door. Probably with a wool pad on an electric buffer. That video was 16 years ago so I guess it's cool the car is on the road and not sitting in a field someplace.

After you polish it, you need to get something on there to keep the paint from oxidizing again. Use a quality sealant etc. and it will stay red & shiny much, much longer. Keep on top of it and it will stay nice for a very long time.

Any good types of sealant you would recommend? I was thinking about trying that glaze idea mentioned earlier.

Yeah, mine is silver, this is what I am trying to clean up.
Keep in mind, I have already used the buffer on it with Meguairs 3 or 4 step process, which is a paint cleaner, polish, wax and something else. I didn't get to the wax part because nothing really changed while doing any of them.
Some areas I don't think there is even any paint left on it.

The rear is dull as dull can be, but the front seems decent.

Chemical Guys makes a good product and it's probably one of the more durable and less expensive options.

I'm personally a fan of SIO2

the results are superb even on 20 year old paint

I have read good things about Souveran, but never used it - other Pinnacle products are great though, so this likely is too.
