Geeked for Carlisle
Anyone out there not yet decided on going to Carlisle, listen to this. My plans for travel this year is South Carolina in May, Hawaii in September, and the Bahamas in December. I am more excited about the Carlisle trip than any other of these trips. This will be my 4th consecutive year to Carlisle. I think alot of Carlisle veterans can tell the same type of stories.

Carlisle is surely something I put on my calendar first thing in January, so that I can assure myself of not agreeing to any conflicts. For those of you who haven't attended:
-- first, there are the enjoyable Merkur Convoys; nothing like looking in your rear-view mirror at dozens of Merkurs on the interstate
-- lots of Merkur discussions in the hotel parking lot both Friday and Saturday nights;
-- miles (literally) of vendor rows of all things Ford... old parts (I mean REALLY old!), new parts, cheap tools, wheels, tires, seats, car covers, Eastwood is there, OPMD has a booth, etc., etc. You can literally spend a day walking the vendor aisles
-- Miles of showfield covered with every type of Ford ever built (another full day!)
-- speciality cars in the "barns" this year supposedly a bunch of the mid- to late-60s Ford Fairlane drag cars
-- Vendor exhibits (Meguiar's, Ford, Roush, Goodyear, etc.)
-- Great food (Pennsylvania Dutch inspired) with no unreasonable lines; very good BBQ, very good sticky buns, etc.
-- this year, a nearby hotel (in previous years, the hotel was in Harrisburg, about 20 (?) miles away)
-- the Merkur showfield tent; lots of stuff happening around it. Meet 'n greet other Merkheads, attend Merkur-specific seminars; buy a Merkur t-shirt (wear with pride)
-- Carlisle-sponsored seminars; one year, we watched a guy build a Ford motor from start to finish. There will be others; check the Carlisle website.
Hope to see everyone there.

You are NOT alone, Hawaii, Bahamas...can be done anytime in the year, and if lucky more than once!..Carlise comes but once a year!
My usual plans are (Major car shows) Carlisle in June(this year) and either Ford Fair or National Day in England in August. Englishtown as often as I can go including Fun Ford Weekend Everything else goes around that schedule.

One other thing about the Carlisle weekend: Except for 2003, the Sunday of the Carlisle weekend is also a great big Street Rod show in nearby York, Pa. (40 miles?) at the fairgrounds there. I think it's the East Coast Nationals. In recent years, there have been thousands (no joke!) of street rods of every color, type, description, etc. Well worth the short trip and, besides, after two days at the All-Ford Nationals -- no offense anyone -- you've pretty much DONE Carlisle. I've always enjoyed the street rods but, then again, it's actually only a little bit out of my way home.

i have reservations and ill be there but my merk might not make it
ive only had it running for 20 min or so, but it sounds like a rod knock when it idles below 1000 rpm, but i have 40 psi of oil pressure....
this car is definatly on my bad side at the moment

There are always kiosks with jewelry--chicks can't pass those up, and they definitely can't pass by the mirrors on those vendors tables.mhamilton wrote:Note from my wife: "I hate you people! How can a car show be the highlight of your year?"
I know that is what she is thinking. Maybe if they had a shoe store on the Carlisle premises...
[Not to even mention the male hunks on view everywhere....oh, wait, that's not at the Merkur meet. ]
