FS: Steering Shaft Bearing

I have 2 more steering shaft bearings left. This replaces the rubber bushing at the firewall which causes steering wheel movement. Easy install in about a 1-1.5 hours. I am including the hardware as well. $44 shipped each.

This goes on the interior side of the firewall, over the hole for the current bushing. Remove the steering column, press this over the current bushing, drill two holes for the fasteners, reinstall, and off you go. An inexpensive and not difficult mod which yields noticeable benefits.

Do you disconnect at the rag joint and this slides up?
Or pull the wheel and it goes on?

You take the shaft out, by disconnecting at the pinch bolt, removing the two bolts at the wheel end, and disconnecting the electricals (and some trim pieces, of course). So the wheel stays on the shaft, but the shaft comes out. The hardest part, other than drilling the holes in the firewall, because working in the footwell is always going to involve some contortion, is gently prying the electrical connectors apart which have been together for a quarter-century (and which were never really designed for easy removal/reinstallation, IMO). If you really want to give yourself some room to work with, remove the seat. I didn't bother, but I still think I'm a young man, so I had the sore muscles and joints afterward!

Install is easy if you pull the entire steering column out. The only thing reused is the plastic piece that you can hammer into the bearing. Removing the seat will give you a ton more room but I didnt feel it was necessary either. And you dont have to do anything from under the car. You can reach the steering shaft pinch bolt from the engine bay.
