Re: Scorpio Change Delineation Thread
Can anyone detail the coolant hose changes between the '88 and '89 cars? Do we have any idea why this was done?

Re: Scorpio Change Delineation Thread
Found two more things today, the first, the hard way...
1) Fuel injector harness - the main 8-wire quick-connector is different between '87 and '89. Different shape (round vs. oval) and different gender.
2) 8mm barb on coolant flange is straight up on early cars and 90-degree angle on later
No idea on exact change-over date.

Re: Scorpio Change Delineation Thread
Hello Brad,
Don't know for sure if this is an '89 thing or not. I noticed in the pictures of the very low mileage 89 that was recently sold (thread titled; Check out this immaculate Scorpio for auction), that the Idle Air Control (IAC), valve is pointing in the opposite direction. Electrical connector on the passenger side whereas my '88 has it on the passenger side. It would be interesting to know of the part number changed or was merely a case of rotating the IAC 180 degrees?
Hope it helps.

Pretty sure the IAC solenoids were installed like this...including the zip tie as shown.

I'll have to double-check the exact date, but my 88 Scorpio has the hydraulic hood supports.
Edit: It is dated June 1988

I think you need to be careful TaurusSHO_Scorpio.
Some early Scorpios were modified by their owners to install the struts.
Mine is August 88 build date and it does not have the struts.
Here is a picture of Saul Rifkin's 89. you should compare yours's to this to verify.

Re: Scorpio Change Delineation Thread
ABS changes.. Somewhere around mid 1988.
According to Haynes...
"To overcome the problem of excessive rear
brake pad wear, Ford introduced a differential
valve which is screwed into the ABS valve
block. The valve limits the pressure applied to
the rear brake calipers and so reduces brake
pad wear. From 1988 onwards, the valve has
been fitted during production. The differential
valve can also be fitted to earlier models. Refer
to your Ford dealer for further information"
