T9 Clutch Reservoir?

Post by Chris_12 »

I pulled out my 87 XR out today. The pan had a bit of red fluid. My dad and I were not sure where it came from. I thought it came from his RX7 that needed the clutch replaced because we slid the pan under my car, but he wanted to check the clutch reservoir on my car. We spent 20 mins looking but couldn't find it. I have to ask the question: where is the clutch reservoir for a XR with the T9 transmission?

T9 is a cable clutch so no reservoir. If the fluid was red it’s likely type f transmission fluid as used in the power steering system.

T9 fluid is also (likely) red.

Power steering fluid/ATF is red, I think? Been a while since I had any, and that commonly leaks on the XR.

^^^ I was losing PS fluid but wasn't able to find the leak source as I was too busy for weeks. Replaced pump, return hose, rack ... turned out the high pressure hose, which I had checked and appeared in good condition, had a light wear section not easily visible that rubbed on something near it. Replaced it. No more PS fluid leaking.

BTW, that fluid aggressively stains asphalt (car was parked on street then).

YMMV
