Sorta what I figured. I hadn't really been aware that the gray cladding with silver stripe were used on any of the red cars in the '88 M.Y. Do we know when that got switched over to solid red?

This thread had been started to help update the Quickfacts section of the MCA site: http://www.merkurclub.com/mca_pub/merku ... kfacts.htm(I think), so how about an update to the # of XR4Ti ?

Where did this information come from? Its off by a few thousand... it lists Total XR4Ti: 42,464

When the actual # of XR4Ti built is 45,368.

...and the quickfacts section shows:
Factory location:
Osnabruck, Germany
The XR4Ti in fact was actually built entirely at the
Rheine, Germany factory.

I'll gather up my info from Wilhelm Karmann GmbH Historisches Archiv
and post it if verification is requested of the facts and #'s. I also believe I have the production year breakdowns as well as first and last day of production.

I had an '89 Brown (gold) Ext w/ Spice Brown LEATHER interior, and Brown/ dark beige Interior. Cladding was matched to body colour with Black trim inserts.

I still have an '89 Diamond White w/ Spice Brown LEATHER interior, and also Brown/ Dark Beige interior. Cladding was matched to body colour with Black trim inserts. ALSO, my mom was the second owner of this vehicle and it had PINSTRIPE from front to back on the sides right about where the bodyline creases. Anyone have this?

Also, was heated seats a Canadian Only option? (My white is CDN, my brown is US & A).

Nope. I'd say a large majority of XR's have them. Whether they work or not is another question.

Which lower valve cover coolant line is the correct one for the car? This is from my 12/84 car.

I'm pretty sure that lower line is NOT original Joe. It looks like one from a Turbo Coupe or possibly a SVO Mustang. I am under the impression that those hard lines did not change throughout the 5 years of production.

Added "Late" to 150mph speedo's on 88's
Moved non-cracking dash material to 87.5
Moved Diff mount to 86 Late
Moved cloth interior change to 86
Moved valve cover redesign to 87.5
Added brake upgrade to 87

Questions:
Does anyone have a 88/89 without a sunroof? It may have been listed as optional on the sticker, but could have been on every car.
On the same note, was cruise standard on the 88/89's?
I think all cars had red cladding trim from 85-87?, then I've seen white 88's with both Red, Black and Silver trim. Anybody with an 87 with non-red trim?
On the different door handle/hatch release, does anyone else have an early 85 with these features? My early 85 has some differences, doesn't have these. Could these just be imported euro parts?
I had an 88 Mono-black non sunroof car which was sadly totaled a couple years ago.

Prehaps the 87 1/2 should be listed as a seperate model, as it is unique unto itself; No body mounted mast antenna and a unique hatch, wing and glass?
No-really I can stop bringing home XR4's whenever I want....

I um......sorta.....um.....like....have seven now.....and a couple Scorpios....

I wonder if they can give specific production numbers if we provide a VIN. I know mine was built in 12/84, but that's it.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but the interior door locks in the 85's are different. They sit flush with the door handle when locked with no tab on them.

Can't say I ever noticed this one. Wonder if it might have been an "early '85" only sort of thing. Regardless, pics are in order. :poke

Pics. I believe Ray's car is the same, also an 85. I don't know what his build date is, but mine is 12/84. The 86 I rode in this weekend didn't have these same locks.

Hmm, well, running out to my '89 and comparing, hEaT's observation is correct: the locks in my door still stick out like a cam lobe when locked.
