Underhood insulation
Has anybody found any part that can be used to replace the original part? Thanks.

Re: Underhood insulation
Thanks for the link. I'll do some more research, but I saw that it is made with 'synthetic rubber," and is rated up to 212*F. It's probably fine, but I wonder if it'll hold up to some of the temps our hotsides generate. Any experience, or am I overly concerned? Thanks again.itking wrote:Ebay. Here's one of many there.

There's also a place called Dynamat. Here's their link. This is probably a better product than the ebay stuff.

Curious... Have you actually bought this stuff?itking wrote:Ebay. Here's one of many there.

It says the seller's in Kansas but when I read that auction it sounds like it was written by Chinese Guy. Doesn't mean it's good or bad.
Now Dynamat, that's a different thing entirely. I've seen that stuff used on TV on high end restorations.

So did I, going back over two XR's, as the aging fire blankets inexorably descended until befouling the throttle linkage, and with no ill effects.xrattiracer wrote:removed mine years ago and havent looked back

Unnecessary, really. EPA mandated for sound suppression. All it does is add weight, and cost money.

EPA mandated? I doubt that, my 99 Saturn had very little soundproofing on the hood.RichBaker wrote:Unnecessary, really. EPA mandated for sound suppression. All it does is add weight, and cost money.

Think about the class of cars Ford was hoping to steal sales from. BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz. How many of them had a buzzy four cylinder?
Lots of the improved platform stiffness was to combat NVH. Think Ford would spend that cash and not try what was likely the cheapest component for that fight?

Re: Underhood insulation
I stand by my post. I'm 57, was reading all the mags back then. Noise suppression, EPA mandated dB levels, equals underhand insulation.....
