Thoughts on coilovers conversion? I've heard front works, rear not sure much.
If coilovers, what spring rate did you use? For high performance street driving?
Figure replace all the bushings at the same time?

Koni or Bilstein with springs is what you will find the majority of folks running on an XR.
Next is Ground Control coilovers on the front where you cut the perch off the above mentioned Koni or Bilstein struts.
If you want to go all out JVAB makes (or did make) coilovers for all 4 corners as well as the options of GAZ coilovers from the UK for all 4 corners for the Sierra.
Coilovers if you NEED the front clearance for wheels, otherwise a nice set of Koni / Bilstein with good springs will do just fine. I like progressive rate springs on a street car personally.
Poly bushings make a HUGE difference on these cars.

I'll second what Mike said about the poly bushings. I also agree that quality stock style dampers will do the job well for 99% of the Merkur population.
As far as springs, You want AT LEAST a 200# front coil. Don't be afraid to "over spring" these cars. If anything, they are incredibly undersprung from the factory. MC2racing.com sells a "drop-in" spring for the front and rear of these cars that makes them amazing, when coupled with poly bushings and a good damper. The added expense of coilovers is completely unnecessary for someone who is just beginning their journey with these cars.
