Cleaning the VAM

Like it says, I wanna clean the VAM so I know its not sticking. What do we use? I assume not carb cleaner?

That’s honesty what I would have used to clean it. I’m surprised no one here has an opinion.

I have an opinion, but it's just a guess and not fact/experience-based. In the absence of other input, I'd look at using MAF cleaner. I'm not confident enough that's the right answer to tell the OP that's what he should do though.

Throttle Body/Air Intake Cleaner. But I only use a blue shop paper towel to clean the bore and wipe the temp sensor.

Hi all,

I use MAF/Throttle Body cleaner and have good results. I would point out that the sensor should not be powered while 'wet' as it will be ruined. I remove them, clean them, set them in the sun for a bit if possible and then reinstall,,, If you use an oil soaked cloth air filter the possibility exists that the sensor might have a bit of oil film on it and cleaning can be a good idea.

Well my VAM must've been pretty clean, as I noticed no difference after using QD Electronics Cleaner, and Electric Parts Cleaner. I would've sued MAF cleaner on the sensor, but I didn't have any.

Your wallet noticed the difference (~$18 cost?).

That's why I just wipe off oil film with a cloth or shop towel.

Only for the full can of electric parts cleaner that I dropped and lost the little sprayer bit on. It broke off at the base, so I can't even get anything out of the can now

The QD will get used elsewhere.

Interestingly enough, I got no dirt out of the VAM. It was pretty clean.

When I had my SVO I covered the VAM wire/sensor then sprayed TB cleaner into the VAM. Then I uncovered the sensor and sprayed the MAF sensor cleaner on sensor. I'm due to clean VAM on My XR. Thanks for your post
