87 tire recommendation

Post by Chris_12 »

I finally bought (er, soon to own) a proper place to play with my xr; however, she needs tires. She's stock and all I can find is all season tires. Anyone have any recommendations for summer tires that doesn't break the bank?

Hi all,

I would actually recommend good V rated all weather tires as any summer tire totally sucks under about 40 degrees. Experience talking...

OK, with that said, Azenis Falken 205/50-15 would be fun in good warm weather. They will wear out rapidly but they will stick. Top of the line Continental summer tires are also good but more money. The real trouble with 15" or 14" rims on XR is that all the cool tires are 16", 17" or larger rim sizes now. Also they are low profile and fatter width than the wheel wells or wheels can take. YMMV

I have Yokohama Advan Fleva V701s on my 88 in 205/55r15 on the stock paddle wheels. Very satisfied with them so far. However this is coming from 8 year old Kumhos so the bar was set pretty low.

Hi all,

When they were available I ran Yokohama A008 205/60-14 on the '86 XR. They lasted 24k, were great in warm weather and basically street legal racing tires. Not made anymore...
