Parking cables with rear disk brake conversion

Post by hybridEF8 »

I'm trying to understand what to do with the parking cables when doing the turbocoupe rear disk upgrade. I bought the kit from Mike and I see that the online documentation http://www.merkur.50megs.com/photo3.html references using "Parking Brake Cable Adapters" http://merkurmidwest.com/catalog/i850.html. The problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how they're meant to be used. I understand that there is extra slack in the line that needs to be taken up, but is unclear how to use or mount these. One side does fit into the caliper leading to the hand brake lever but there is no clear way to attach it and the function is unclear.

I've also referenced http://www.23turbo.com/2020/12/throwbac ... -disc.html but it has no mention of the adapters, only splicing the line which I'd like to avoid doing.

I know this was a fairly popular upgrade so I'm hoping someone has used this approach in dealing with the parking brake cable. The rest of the job seems straightforward enough. Any help is appreciated!

I’d just give Jeff a call in regards to the adapters.

Its just a tube spacer to take up the "extra" slack in the stock parking brake cable.
Extra slack specifically being the bare cable on each side. Just slide the cable through the tube and stick the tube into the caliper.
Once both sides are in and there's tension these work great and are much better than slicing and dicing the cable to shorten it.
