Help with XR motor mount replacement

Post by petenhxr4ti895spd »

What is the procedure too replace motor mounts on a XR.

Please do not response with generalization and or slang terms
Thank you for your help

1. Presently my car is up in the air on jack stands
2. The nuts on both motor mount are removed.
I am looking at the thread stud going thru the motor mount arm that is bolted to the engine block both sides.
At this point, if I Lift the engine up a inch and a half. It does not look like I could the motor mount stud out of the motor mount arm.
What am I missing?
Thank you for your help.

I've seen your message in a number of different locations with a lot of people giving valid directions.
If none of those make sense, I'd suggest getting a copy of the service manual. The service manual is worth it's weight in gold if you are going to be doing any work on the car, it will pay for itself in the first job you do.
it really is pretty easy to do, and you're half way there with the current mounts loosened up and the engine ready to lift with a tuba 4 and a floor jack.

^^ Yes. And I've lately been using scrap pieces of 1" PVC planks which have an ideal mix of strength and "give but not break" qualities.

YMMV

The service manual has very little information on replacement them.
It does not tell you the torque spec for the arm bolts. What I found was 3 or 4 pictures.

Download the complete shop manual. I found the old thread by using the search box and typing in "manual link". If I was only replacing the mounts I wouldn't worry about removing the aluminum arms from the engine block. I would just get the engine up a few inches and slide out the old mounts.
