If you do all the prep work and remove the trim, a decent paint job can be had by Maaco. In most cases I'd suggest sticking with the stock color unless you really remove everything and have the car towed in.

I pulled the tails in the macco parking lot when I dropped it off. Already had cleaned any wax/grease/oil from all surfaces. All primer had gotten scuffed down to 220grit. You can see in the photos I didn't have cowl on yet or new front signals on at first. Got a larger turbo and some glass lights from Mike that will be going on also. I could have gotten it down to 400 grit, filled some little dings, put another 10 or 20 hours into it but I didn't. Looks good from 5 feet away though. Fun car not a show car.

Car was painted Summer 2014. I was happy with the quality of the spray job and the quality of the actual paint. Unfortunately it was backed into on the drivers side door shortly after the fresh paint. My plan was to wait 30 days after the paint job and then wax it with Mequiar's Ultimate. After the hit to the door I changed my mind. It sat outside in the sun the last nine years with no wax or any type of protection. I bought a car cover for it and the cover is still brand new in the box. The paint has faded a little and is not very shiny but has held up well considering. No body work was performed before the paint job and every small ding or dent was now very noticeable. Also paint didn't like to stick very well to the rubber door strips and started to come off after a couple years. The goal now is to get everything down to around 400 grit and ready for paint. If you do the prep work yourself a basic spray job can look great and is very affordable.

Paint is 6 or 7 years old in this picture.

What kind of paint did they use Andy? Was it single stage or base + clearcoat?

It was their lowest cost option. About $400 out the door. The only add on was an extra 50 dollar charge for the color change. A two stage was extra, fade resistant extra, urethane was extra. I was told to go to the Macco in Akron on Waterloo Road because they have a $100,000 dollar down draft paint booth. I asked if the paint would be a modern 2 component and they said all their paint is. As far as brands go it is Macco paint. They are so huge, it would be like asking McDonalds what brand of beef do they use. My guess would be a company that makes paint for the Eastwood company or Summit Racing also makes their stuff. They may even own that manufacturer or just part of that company. As far as I know the paint they use on a Murcielago is the same stuff they use on a Kia. But who would take their Murcielago to Macco? You would have to be a real idiot.
