Sorta, kinda. At first it was the vise-grip that was only sliding as I wacked it with the hammer. Then I bit down a little harder with it and gave it another go. This time the shaft moved. Yea!!!

Got it all back together last night, only to find that the battery was dead. Not sure if it's dead-dead or just in need of re-charge. Left it on the charger overnight.

Had I known about the bearing at the time, I certainly would have done it while the car was gutted (which clearly was the time to do the Scorpio steering column swap). But it's not that tough to do just the bearing install on a fully outfitted car. I have a spare steering shaft that perhaps I'll bring to Carlisle along with another batch of bearings. I drove the car with the bearing installed for the first time last night. It's an awesome upgrade, even more so if you're running manual steering.

Just had a question about the after-market steering bearing myself and others have sold not being mounted quite level with the housing. In short, it's not an issue since it's a mild-interference fit and will shift if needed on it's own. If you want to level it up prior to install, just tap around the perimeter of the bearing to level it up with the housing. Just be sure not to hit the seal as you can damage the bearing that way.

This is a good upgrade. it was original on Group A cars with similar bearing. But not "collapse" colum om them either, since Are only a straight shaft on them
