New 2.3 EcoBoost would be great in a Scorpio...
My 2003 Sport Trac was on its last legs. So I traded it in on a new Ford Ranger.
i'm really liking the Ranger and its 2.3 Ecoboost engine. This engine would be phenomenal in the Scorpio (or XR4ti for that matter).
This place sells all the crate motor and all the extra goodies...

Probably would cost close to $10k when all said and done. But boy it would be a heck of a car. All that power and great fuel economy if you could keep a light touch on the pedal. I'll bet it would get well over 30mpg on the highway.
Maybe you could find a Mustang wreck and pick up the goodies a little cheaper.
Working out the radiator and inter-cooler would probably pose some challenges.

Check out the youtube video where the guys sneak an ecoboost into the coyote drag event. They put the 5.0 badge on the side and zip tie the engine cover on top of the ecoboost (I don't recommend this). The tech guys looks under the hood and says yep everything seems to be in order. Pretty funny.

My friend is building a buggy, he was talking about putting a new 2.3T in it. I was on the look out for one and found it listed locally from a wreck. The guy said he was going to fix the car and wanted a V8, so just get rid of the garbage 4 banger...$1000 for engine, ECU and harness. No trans, but that's a pretty good deal still...I guess he needs a special trans for the buggy setup, not familiar with it.
Honestly, I'd be fairly content with even the smaller 1.6t engine setup in an XR. I think it would still be decent and good power.

For an extra $850 that ebay vendor can rig it up on a palette as a test stand.

Pretty cool.
With the 3.64 rear diff and weight well below that of the 2016 Mustang...the Scorpio would really haul a$$ with this motor.

This guy put the 2.0L ecoboost into the XR4tI.

Notice he mentions using the Ranger oil pan. That means he had to wait until the Ranger was released this year to make the swap work.

It's a little amazing than pan fits. I guess he had to mod the oil pickup as well.
According to Wikipedia article on Duratec...
"While the 2.0 Ford EcoBoost engine and its later 2.3 variant share a cylinder block with the L3-VDT and are derived from the Mazda L architecture, little else is shared between the EcoBoost and L3-VDT and they should not be confused with one another."
I'll have to take a look at the oil pan on the new Ranger.

I got a bit confused when he was mumbling about Ford Australia, Ford Germany, Ford blah blah blah...
Sounds like you need to fetch parts from every country to get this to work...
