Modern Review of the (Granada) Scorpio 4x4

I watch just enough automotive reviews on youtube that this one was served to me:

It's not really a balanced review as they're comparing the top-of-the-line Scorpio to the base model Saab, Mercedes, and BMW.

But interesting to watch regardless.

The Saab 9000 Turbo was Top of the Saab Line.

The Merc 300 E was not base model.

And IIRC the BMW 528e wasn't base model either.

He does get one thing right in that video.

Best seats Ford ever put into a vehicle IMHO. Best seats I have ever sat in any vehicle, but I'm sure there may be something high end out there that is better.

He complains about the steering and handling, but its an old car and one wonders what the condition of the the LCA ball joints, struts and in particular the steering column grommet that goes through the firewall. My grommet was perished and it made a big difference when I replaced it. Also polyurethane LCA and sway bar bushings make a big improvement. I'll bet navy beans to credits that he has no rebound buffers in the rear.

He neglected to talk about cargo capacity when you fold down the rear seats. This is another aspect that I like about the Scorpio.

I think the criticism regarding the 150hp is unreasonable. Ford focused on a broad torque curve with this engine. Peak HP is meaningless and I've never found the Scorpio to be underpowered.

I agree. Comparing it to modern HP engines, yes, it's low. But also, modern vehicles are much heavier. A modern-day Scorpio would probably be nearing 4000 lbs!

Since the EDIS conversion, I'm very happy with the power output of the Scorpio and any thoughts about converting it to a modern Duratec 4-cyl have been removed from consideration. In fact, I sometimes think about converting the Brat to a 2.9!

Damn Brits in these reviews prate on and on and on, well after each point is made clearly enough in 2/3 words: the Jackie Stewart one; this one; every Jeremy Clarkson one on any auto including the Granada.

I wonder if EDIS can work with MAP?

Vovan, Yes, I believe it is possible to run EDIS with the standard MAP. It requires translation of the signals between EDIS and the Scorpio stock ECU.

I heard that EEC4 can't control ignition timing via EDIS. I heard that EDIS can only work with EEC5. Is that true?
