The tool aligns the lower cover properly so that the seal isn't being pushed off of the crank. The tool isn't really to install the seal, it's to align the lower cover. It might leak if the seal isn't centered. You can't align the seal, you align the cover.
seems like it would only be necessary if you remove the rear bearing cap then, which you do not have to do to change the rear main seal.
So, since no new posts, I assume something you did stopped the leak?

oem rear main seal
light rtv on the oil pan gasket, especially the corners.

What really seemed to fix it was a catch can. I wish i would of done that way sooner, way sooner, like first mod soon.
Obviously the oem pcv valve cant move enough air.

Stock under boost the PCV closes (primary curcuit) and the crankcase is vented by the secondary circuit from the VC breather through the hose / tubing that runs to the cold side/impeller of the turbo.
