Show me any public, government, non-profit organization that has accrued no fat/bloat in budgets, staffing, salaries, overhead. It's past time for retrenchment.

What Fareed says is "proof"? Stop watching that propagandist.

He likes to talk about how historically US gov't supported science and research was a Good Thing® and that it is somehow being erroneously "undone".
But it is a different world today. His simple arguments do not apply

Proof - SpaceX is doing space so much more efficiently than tax dollar sucking NASA ever did.
Just compare the space shuttle (it's disasters, it's monetary black hole, and abandonment) to a SpaceX rocket booster landing on a dime.

What has been discovered (and it has taken a long time to discover) is that you can't let government bureaucrats and boffins mandate how science and technology develops. You got to let the free market work. Let the entrepreneurs take the risk, not the government with our tax dollars.

I'll make a prediction for you - Workable fusion energy, something that has been worked on for decades by government supported research around the world will eventually be developed and deployed by a private company.

Fareed is actually real smart. I've read of couple of his books you guys might want to check them out. Neil deGrasse Tyson is also pretty harsh on SpaceX. It's worth listening to some of his talks.
